BAY POINT CANCELS 40/40 SHOOTOUT, FESTIVAL FOR 2010

I hate to say it, but we’ve been forced to cancel the upcoming 40/40 Shootout.

For the past 27 years we’ve brought the fishing community together each July to celebrate the Bay Point Invitational. More than just a fishing tournament, the Invitational is a chance to see and be seen, catch up with old friends, break records and make memories. In our 27 year history, we’ve only had to postpone one tournament, and that was due to Hurricane Dennis back in ’05 - and even then we only had to push it back for a week.

All summer long, though, we’ve watched the fishing boundary march further and further eastward, and when NOAA released their latest fishing closures on Monday, we knew it was over. Sure, there’s still a small area open for these 40/40 maniacs to fish in, but it wouldn’t be safe for them to push through oil-affected waters. Canceling the event isn’t something we want to do, but it’s the right thing to do. Everyone who registered for the Invitational or 40/40 Shootout (sponsored by Hart’s Marine !) will receive a full refund.

Without the 40/40 to anchor everything, we’ve also had to cancel the festival as well. The Al Hubbard Kid’s Fishing Experience, the exciting weigh-ins, our world famous Dock Walk and the parties you’ve come to expect have all been postponed until next year.

So mark your calendars for July 13th-17th, 2011. All the bands, all the parties and all the big fish you’ve come to expect from Bay Point will be back, bigger and better than ever.

Trust me, you won’t want to miss it.
